Wang Yang, Toronto piano teacher

Born and raised in Beijing from a musical family, Wang Yang attended the Central Conservatory of Music at a very young age. Upon graduation, he furthered his musical studies at McGill University in Montreal and later, at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, where he was conferred the prestigious Artist Diploma -- the highest award for achievement in performance, awarded to a few carefully selected professional musicians and unusually accomplished students.

After winning the 1980 National Piano Competition in China, Yang went on to represent his native country in international competitions. He concertized extensively in Canada and the United States and won the Concert Artists International Piano Competition in New York. Wang has been praised for his "dazzling technical mastery" of the piano and his "profound musicality" by Louis Krasner. The Toronto Star applauded him as a "warm, strong, masculine player". He was considered as an outstanding pianist by the late professor Patricia Zander of Harvard University.

A committed music educator with over 30 years of teaching experience, Yang was a former faculty member of the Royal Conservatory of Music, and now teaches in his own private studio. Yang’s inspiration and dedication as a teacher has allowed him to produce many award-winning students, some of whom have chosen to pursue music as a career.
